This overlook in Yosemite Valley is nowhere near as famous as the Wawona Tunnel viewpoint on the south side of the Valley. Nevertheless it offers many possibilities with the right light. The location begs for a longer telephoto lens; an item that I seldom had along in the old large-format days. This particular afternoon was quite gratifying. I had a long drive to San Francisco ahead of me. The Valley is a bit out-of-the-way, and I wanted an easy drive to a shooting location. I knew this overlook was nearby, and the lighting conditions seemed increasingly workable as I drove over Tioga Pass from Mammoth. Once in awhile my pre-conceived notions do work out as planned! I arrived with zero moments to spare. Thanks to the advances in the digital photography world, all was well. I made many exposures in a five minute span, and then the light vanished, just as fast as it was magical five minutes earlier.
