It has been so long since I made this image. This final version was done in 1992, and I believe this the first time my son, Dylan, was along with me to make a photograph. Here is the original story...
"I spent three years working on this image. Once the camera was stolen along with the exposed film. Next year the clematis never flowered, but finally in 1992 it all came together."
Twenty-five years later now; that's a pretty brief story, it's accurate but here are more details. I still like this photograph. I wish there were more possibilities in this genre out there. It is very hard to find them. Why? It is an abstract image, not just a nice arrangement of flowers. One has to think about lines, soft areas, shadows, the shape of the window, does the Clematis help the image, does it lead to your emotional focal point? In some ways this capture is related to shooting sand dunes. The dunes are always amazing, but do your captures show clarity of purpose, do they have a visual flow? I am thinking it's time for me look at Sand Dunes!
