I was astonished by the colors in the canyons if the Eastern Sierra this fall. It has been a long time since we've had the deeper oranges and reds here. The autumn colors arrived a bit early, and seemed to last forever. This has always been a reflective time of year for me. A large part of it is just in taking the time to photograph these colors, experiencing the shift in the season, from the perspective of intentionally looking into and capturing the details that make this season so wonderful. It is seldom that, in any given autumn season, I get any new images that I can work into my portfolio, but I very much enjoy photographing in October in the Sierra. Workshop students this season all mentioned that they “wanted to know what happens in the right side” of my brain when I am outside with my camera, and then inside with Lightroom. Autumn 2018 was great season to reflect on my photographic career, and to become more skilled for me too. And to pass these ideas back to my workshop clients.
