Sometimes the answer isn’t to do more. It’s to keep your eyes — and the right side of your brain open.

Many of my images take years to come to life. First, I have to understand what draws me to a place. Then I may wait years to find the right light—even with my new Sony.

This particular spot followed that familiar pattern. It was beautiful, and I always stopped, but the moment would pass. Eventually, the magic seemed to fade.

Then the right side of my brain kicked in.

I drove back toward Lake Sabrina. It took five trips, but on the morning of November 1, the light was finally amazing: clouds, fog, and a light snowstorm. It was one of the most special days of my career behind the camera.

I made many images that morning. This is the best.
