This image features Rock Creek Lake with Mt. Starr in the background. Rock Creek can be a difficult place to photograph well, and catching fall colors is especially challenging. I've never had great results, even after more than a hundred attempts. Because the canyon goes north south, on clear days there's no opportunity to catch morning or late afternoon light anywhere. On this day, I was fortunate to have a combination of conditions which I use often; there is a light overcast in the foreground and direct light on the background.
