For nearly two years, this image eluded me. It is easy to miss the colors here because this is the first patch of trees to change. I remember dragging my daughter Sabrina up and down hills on trails near Aspendell. I failed to find a good location. Then I realized that the views from the trails were not high enough. I changed my strategy and began to look for places near the road. I also decided to use a long telephoto lens to shorten the apparent distance to the Sierra crest.
