I can't even believe to mention how many years I have searched for a good image of Mammoth Mountain and autumn colors. There have been drives up and down the Sherwin Creek Road, and strolls all throughout Mammoth Meadow by Snowcreek. I had stopped by this pond also over the years also, but I was always bothered by the cut grass around the pond. And I could not solve the difficulties with the light only being really good in mid-day. In October of 2013 we experienced a light snowfall mid-month during peak colors here in Mammoth. I thought to go back to the pond at sunrise. The first trip the morning light never occurred, but the second time there was perfect soft-light from the east, and a dusting on new snow to cover the grass. And no ducks to mess up the near perfect reflection of Mammoth Mountain!
