Burano is tiny island 45 minutes north of the city, but still in the lagoon of greater Venice. Burano has a tiny fishing fleet and brilliantly painted houses. It's shops sell Burano's traditional handicraft, gossamer-fine lace. We first visited as a family but there was just too much to photograph here. I made a return visit with my daughter, Sabrina. Photographs of canals and water are tricky. Any movement from the wind or a passing boat waters spoils the composition, and then one has to wait for what seems like hours to get it right once again, and by then the light may have changed. I investigated a digital back for my 4x5 beforehand, but the cost was too prohibitive. It would be nice to be able to work faster....
