This image was made so long ago that I can hardly remember when it was captured - perhaps 2009, or maybe 2013. It was not fully realized on my computer until 2023!.

I made two photographs in similar locations. I believe the other was originally intended for a different story on my website, but the two images were quite similar, and I prefer this version.

Capturing the perfect interaction of light and shadow on the granite walls of El Capitan might requires hours of patient waiting, making your memory of waiting for the light a common experience for artists in this specific area. The location allows photographers to transition seamlessly from grand, iconic valley views to small, detailed macros of the flora and water features. 

I think I spent most of an afternoon waiting for the best light.
