This famous location is one of the signature spots of the American West. On a rainy afternoon, I carefully scouted the lake. I chose a position fairly close to the road. To prepare my gear, I placed a 3 stop neutral density filter on the lens. This would help the exposure and the contrast range, but not affect the natural color. I placed stones to mark the location of the tripod. Before dawn, I returned. My son remained asleep in the car. Luck favors the prepared. This alpenglow light was among the most intense that I have ever witnessed and lasted only seconds. This image is a good lesson in photographing a well known location. It is always possible to put one's own touch on the familiar and catch the new and unique in the ever changing landscape.
