This photograph made me wish that I had a digital back, or maybe a medium-format camera. A ride on a gondola is one of the must-do activities of a visit to Venice and I wanted a good photograph to take home. But as always in Venice, the gondolas are always in motion, and waters are always moving. Large-format 4x5 cameras are "glacial". They are slow to operate, and require long exposures, which means that they only photograph stationary objects well. Great for mountains in the Sierra Nevada, but very problematic in Venice. I did my best here, trying to use a brief shutter speed, but there is motion in the boats and people in the water. Maybe another time?
