Seldom do I make my best images on a first visit to a new location. I have returned to the area of this fence line many, many times over the years. My old friend and mentor, Galen Rowell always mentioned, “One's inevitable failures provide important clues to predicting eventual success”. Those clues to this area made for a success. We were out here on a stormy, cold morning during winter of 2016. I was not impressed with this capture at the time. But when I was back in my office, and perusing the captures of the morning, I knew I had the potential for success with this image. It took some work in Lightroom to get it to match my visualizations that morning.
